precious that Central Americans used them as currency. The cocoa tree was then “the tree of the
gods”. This fruit was used to make a drink served at important ceremonies. However, it wasn’t the
culinary delight we recognise it as now. It tasted bitter and spicy, and was only consumed in its liquid
form! Chocolate didn’t reach Europe until the 16th century, and the first edible chocolate didn’t appear until the 17th.

At Jeff de Bruges, we grow cocoa beans and craft our own chocolate. Unless otherwise stated, our
couverture chocolate is grown and harvested in Ecuador, on our plantations. This way, optimal
chocolate monitoring is guaranteed, resulting in unparalleled quality products. Our commitment to
both people and the planet is clear, from initial creation to packaging. We use natural, ethically
sourced ingredients and recipes free of GMOs, palm oil, and hydrogenated fats. With a minimum
cocoa content of 35% for milk and 60% for dark, our chocolates taste as good as they look!
Lastly, Jeff de Bruges offers a wide array of services to satisfy food enthusiasts. Our personalised
chocolates, for instance, make ideal tailor-made gifts. Add a little message to say “I love you”, or say
